On July 14–15, 2026, the Multimedia Arts Council of the Philippines (MMACP) achieved a historic milestone by leading its first international creative delegation to Tokyo, Japan. In partnership with the Cebu Creative Entertainment Council (CCEC) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization – Investment and Technology Promotion Office (UNIDO-ITPO), the delegation participated in a creative economic mission held at the United Nations University in Shibuya, Tokyo. The mission was participated by the DTI-CITEM, Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP), Pixel Mafia Corporation, PurpleBug Inc., Damsel Studio, eXPerience Plus Inc., Miming and Fwends Animation Studio, Neun Farben Corporation, TESDA Region 7, Risocycle, Tuldok Animation Studios, and other independent academic and professional representatives.

The mission aimed to strengthen collaboration between the Philippine and Japanese creative industries by fostering innovation, investment, and long-term partnerships. Together with the council, Philippine creative companies, independent animators, game developers, and multimedia professionals presented their work and explored valuable opportunities for collaboration with Japanese investors, institutions, and industry leaders.

As part of the delegation, the group visited HAL University, one of Japan's leading vocational institutions specializing in game development, graphic design, animation, music, and information technology. The delegation also toured 404 Not Found, a dynamic creative hub known for promoting cross-disciplinary collaboration through exhibitions, events, and community initiatives.

The visit concluded at TOEI Animation, one of Japan's most renowned animation studios and the creator of iconic series beloved by generations of Filipino audiences, including Slam Dunk, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Dragon Ball. The experience provided valuable insights into Japan's globally recognized animation industry while opening opportunities for future collaboration between Filipino and Japanese creative professionals.

Advancing Multimedia Education and the Creative Economy

The delegation offered valuable perspectives on the future of multimedia education, the creative economy, and career development for aspiring Filipino multimedia artists. Through discussions with academic institutions, creative organizations, and industry leaders, the council gained a deeper understanding of how education, innovation, and industry partnerships can work together to strengthen the Philippine creative ecosystem.

During the meetings and proposal presentations, MMACP introduced its vision for building sustainable international partnerships. The council highlighted its commitment to collaborating with independent multimedia, film, animation, and game creators, as well as universities, colleges, private vocational institutions, creative organizations, and professional communities.

Looking ahead, MMACP seeks to establish partnerships with Japanese and Southeast Asian centers of excellence through cross-border creative incubators, joint research initiatives, industry certification programs, student exchange networks, creative startup communities, and professional development programs. As a private sector-driven organization, the council remains committed to upskilling creative professionals and supporting the growth of the multimedia, film, animation, and game development industries.

Building Opportunities Across Borders

In pursuing its mission and vision, MMACP extends an open invitation to Japanese to collaborate in creating opportunities that benefit both countries creatively, culturally, and economically. The council welcomes partnerships that promote multimedia education, professional development, industry exchange, knowledge sharing, research, creative innovation, storytelling, community building, and cross-border collaboration.

By connecting Japanese creative enterprises and investors with the Philippine multimedia ecosystem, MMACP aims to showcase the country's exceptional creative talent while strengthening strategic partnerships among private organizations, government agencies, educational institutions, and industry stakeholders. These collaborations will contribute to talent development and reinforce the Philippines' position as an emerging creative hub in the region.

The council's vision also aligns with the Philippine government's aspiration to make the country the leading creative economy in ASEAN by 2030, recognizing the creative industries as a key driver of innovation, employment, and economic growth. Guided by this shared vision, MMACP is committed to raising professional standards, empowering Filipino creative practitioners, and creating meaningful opportunities that connect world-class Filipino talent with the rapidly growing Japanese creative industry.

Looking Ahead

This landmark delegation represents more than an international visit, it marks the beginning of stronger creative exchanges, deeper collaboration, and expanded entrepreneurial opportunities between the Philippines and Japan.

As MMACP continues to expand its global network, the council remains dedicated to empowering Filipino creatives through education, innovation, international partnerships, and industry collaboration. The council looks forward to the lasting outcomes of this mission and to building a more connected, globally competitive, and sustainable future for the Philippine creative industry.
